Monkey Christmas and Apey New Year!

Meet Chip.

Chip is one of the many members of Carter's ever growing tribe.

As you can see, the guy is wild about his troop.

Carter and Chip go way back. When Carter attended camp at Nova's Ark a few summers ago, there was a real, live monkey there named Chip. Chip was one funky monkey and Carter went bananas over him. In no time he became the highlight of Carter's time at camp.

Chip: The real deal.

Ape-arently a week spent with Chip got Carter thinking that he should have a monkey of his own. But gibbon the circumstances, a stuffed Chip would have to do.

Chip / Chips

I was going through photos and videos on my phone the other day and I came across this video of Carter. I've promised a few times to post video of Carter using his talker. And if it were that easy I'd be posting daily because this guy is really branching out with his communication. But ever the playful one, Carter always throws a monkey wrench into being gaped at. Every time I turn on my camera he stops all his monkey business and I get nothing.

So, without further ado…this...from last Christmas (and yes, that's a peanut butter and banana sandwich Carter is eating):

Lemur end by wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the Apey-est of New Years!

Teenager in the House

Thirteen years old?

How did that happen?

According to an article on the Child Mind Institute website, Carter is entering a normal developmental stage of adolescence . The article, Help! My Teen Stopped Talking to Me goes on to explain that, "Whether or not you have cause for concern really depends on the extent to which your kid has stopped talking."

What does it actually look like when teens stop talking to you? Take a look:

Of course I'm making light of the fact that Carter never really started talking. Yeah, I try to keep a sense of humour about it all, mostly because Carter is so darn awesome and he has a kick butt sense of humour himself.

Here's a slideshow I made of him a few years back for his 9th birthday:

Happy birthday, big guy. Love you with all my heart!

Hello From the Other Side

[to the tune of 'Hello' by Adele]

Hello, it's me.
I was wondering if after all these months you'd like to see,
To go over everything.
They say time supposedly flies by
And I guess I must agree.

Hello, Can you hear me?
I'm in our new town dreaming about posts that used to be
When I blogged more regularly.
I've forgotten how it felt before the latest move for me.

There's such a difference since way back then
And a million blank pages.

Hello from the other side.
I must have thought a thousand times
About writing and updating or at least typing something.
But when I do, I never ever follow through.

Hello from the outside.
At least I can say that I've tried
To show you now, what's been going on these past several months.
Hope it don't matter, posts aren't coming regularly anymore.

Hello, how are you?
It's so wonderful to tell you that Carter is doing great.
His new school's going well.
Did you know his teacher and class are awesome? It's such a big relief.

And it's no secret that we love it here.
We've settled in just fine.
